BOHRIALI / MATERIAL KNOWLEDGE

Jesmonite® in India.
Understanding your materials.

A practical guide to Jesmonite® AC100, AC730, Haksons ECO100 and choosing the right casting system for your work.

Made from experience, not just specifications.

At Bohriali, working with Jesmonite® and helping makers use casting materials has shaped the way we think about mixing, surface finish, colour and the making process. That experience informed the development of Haksons ECO100, our own powder-and-liquid acrylic composite system.

Different materials suit different projects. This guide is here to help you understand those differences before you buy.

01 / THE BASICS

What is Jesmonite®?

Jesmonite® is a family of composite casting systems that combine a powder component with a dedicated liquid. Different systems are designed for different outcomes. AC100 is widely used for creative decorative casting, while AC730 is chosen for its stone-like mineral finishes and different performance characteristics.

For a project, look beyond the brand name: consider the recommended mixing ratio, working time, intended application, natural base colour, finish and sealing requirements.

03 / CHOOSE WELL

Which casting material should I choose?

For coloured trays and decorative objects

Look for a system that gives you a consistent surface and works with your pigments. Haksons ECO100 is designed for this kind of making, with a natural ivory base that can affect pale colours.

If you already use Jesmonite® AC100, ECO100 will feel familiar in the way you weigh, mix, pigment and pour. It is a similar casting experience, not the same formulation.

04 / PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Questions makers ask us

Is Haksons ECO100 similar to Jesmonite® AC100?

Yes. Both use powder and dedicated liquid components and offer a similar creative casting workflow. They are not identical formulations, so follow the instructions for the material you are using.

Can I use Jesmonite® pigments with Haksons ECO100?

Yes. Haksons ECO100 is compatible with Jesmonite® pigments for solid colours, marbling and terrazzo techniques.

Is ECO100 a powder mixed with water?

No. ECO100 is supplied with its own dedicated liquid. Do not substitute water for the liquid component.

Why do some castings feel chalky?

Surface feel depends on the material formulation, mixing, curing and finishing. ECO100 is designed to produce a smooth, pleasant-to-touch surface rather than the powdery feel associated with some water-mixed casting powders.

Is ECO100 naturally white?

No. Its unpigmented base colour is natural ivory, which can influence lighter and pastel shades.

Should I seal my castings?

We recommend sealing decorative pieces that may be handled regularly or exposed to moisture or staining. Choose a suitable sealer for the intended finish and use.

05 / WHY WE MADE IT

From working with Jesmonite® to developing ECO100.

Working with established casting systems gave our team a practical understanding of what makers value: predictable mixing, colour flexibility, a satisfying finish and a material that feels good in the hand.

Haksons ECO100 grew from that experience. Developed in India, it uses a mineral powder and its own formulated acrylic liquid, with a 2.5:1 powder-to-liquid ratio by weight. It is not presented as the right answer for every project. It is another considered choice for makers who want a smooth, refined casting system.
