Welcome to Day 58 of our 100 Days 100 Designs challenge! Today, we’re thrilled to share our Glow-in-the-Dark Floral Trinket Tray, featuring a beautiful marbling effect and a glow-in-the-dark flower centerpiece.
Materials Used:
1. Round trinket silicone mould (4 inch)
2. Jesmonite AC100
3. Jesmonite Pigments - Pink & Purple
4. Haksons Gloss Coat
5. Haksons Glow in the Dark Powder
Step-by-Step Process:
1. Preparing the Flower:
We started by taking a flower casted in Jesmonite AC100 and painted it with Haksons Gloss Coat mixed with Haksons Glow in the Dark Powder. The glow-in-the-dark powder was used to create a luminous effect that shines in the dark, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the piece.
2. Setting the Flower:
Next, we placed the painted flower in the center of the silicone mould with the painted side facing down. This ensures that the glow-in-the-dark effect will be visible on the top of the finished tray.
3. Creating the Marbling Effect:
We then prepared two cups of Jesmonite AC100 mixed with pink and purple pigments. Using a marbling technique, we poured the Jesmonite mixture over the flower, creating a swirling pattern that adds depth and movement to the design.
4. Curing and Demoulding:
After allowing the Jesmonite to cure, we carefully demoulded the tray, revealing the vibrant marbling effect and the glowing floral centerpiece. The combination of the glow-in-the-dark feature and the marbled colors makes this tray a standout piece.
5. Adjustments Post Demoulding:
Not everything went as planned in the video. After demoulding, we noticed that the pink and purple pigments had crept beneath the flower, which wasn’t the intended look. We had to sand down these areas to achieve a clean finish. Unfortunately, the sanding process removed some of the glow-in-the-dark powder as well, so we had to repaint the flower.
6. Pro Tip:
Rather than brushing on the glow-in-the-dark powder, which can leave visible brush marks, try this method: take some of the material onto a brush and gently leave droplets on the desired surface. This will form a very thin, even layer without the need for brushing, resulting in a much smoother finish.
This Glow-in-the-Dark Floral Trinket Tray is not only functional but also a beautiful decorative item that adds a touch of magic to any space.
